Some of us have always thought that a compliment which we ask for is never worth receiving. Maybe we think that if we ask for it, then it must be insincere. Is that always the case?

In fact, any compliment can be a fake, and sometimes by asking for feedback we can get an honest praise. How could that happen? Some people are simply not accustomed to paying compliments and need encouragement. Alternatively, you might get compliments on your looks, whilst all you really want to hear is someone praising you for a job well done: even people very close to us might be unable to understand which kind of recognition we need unless we ask.

The importance of feeling valued cannot be overestimated in a romantic relationship, but it is also crucial to achieve a degree of work satisfaction: if your boss hasn’t praised you in a long time, what about asking him for feedback on a recent project which you have successfully completed? You will make yourself happier, teaching him how to be a better manager in the process.

Can we die for lack of hugs and compliments? Take a look here if you want to know the answer.
